Third party in the bedroom?

The hubs and I have just made a huge change in our marriage. We've kicked the third party out of our bedroom.

No, not that kind of third party. Get your head out of the gutter!

The third party I'm referring to is the TV:

I've had a TV in my bedroom since I was a kid and can't fall asleep without it. After some talks with friends who brought up that the TV in the bedroom can be detrimental to a marriage, I did a little research. According to marriage.com:

"The experts agree you should only be doing two things in your bedroom: sleeping and having sex. Bills, kids, computers, TVs ... they're all kryptonite for healthy sleep and definitely for your sex life."

The website brings up a lot of other great points and and it's definitely a worthwhile read. So, I want to know, who has a TV in the bedroom? Do you ever consider removing it? Why or why not?

I'll tell you, I already love that it's gone for the sheer fact that our bedroom looks much more chic without a big metal box on the dresser (another excuse to shop for accessories- yeehaw!). Fess up, I want to know the details of all of your third parties!

  1. My husband wanted a TV in our bedroom because he'd always fallen asleep to it, but I was against it. We've been married and living together for over 3 and a half months and he's been fine without it! :) I'd heard that once about it being detrimental to a marriage, and that reaffirms it. Thanks for posting about it!

  2. When my husband and I moved to Texas a few months ago we decided not to even bring/buy a T.V. A choice most of my friends found insane. But its been a great choice so far. We spend more time together doing things (free festivals, sight seeing, general exploring). And while we still watch some shows online (we have a rather large comp screen) for the most part it keeps us more active and mostly more productive.

  3. I have a tv in the bedroom... BUT... It isnt hooked up to cable. It's a tiny little thing, and really the only time it gets used is when my husband works later than I go to bed, or he works overnight- basically when I have to fall asleep without him. I can just pop a dvd in and fall asleep with my puppy curled up with me.

  4. My hubs would NEVER let me get rid of the TV in the bedroom... he likes to go to sleep with it on, and has since he was little. I go to sleep really fast (and early), so he likes to watch movies while I slumber and then eventually he goes to sleep (almost every night) with it on. Of course, I like to lounge in bed a lot... so I probably should read, work, blog, etc in bed.

  6. We have a tv in the bedroom but no cable, so we never watch it and keep it closed in our entertainment cabinet. But I've read that it's bad Feng Shui, so good move! Our biggest bedroom third party is our giant puppy! He almost kicked me out of the bed the other night.
